Setup Guide: IMAP Email Configuration for Apple Mail & Rocket Workspace

This guide will walk you through setting up your email address as an IMAP account on any email client—desktop, tablet, or smartphone. This applies to both Rocket Email and Rocket Workspace email services.

Why IMAP?

IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) allows you to sync your email account across multiple devices, ensuring your emails and folders are always in sync on each device. IMAP also supports server-side backups, so your data is more secure.

Tip: IMAP is preferable to POP, which does not support multi-device sync as effectively.

Prerequisites

  • Sign up for a Rocket Workspace or Email service.
  • Log in to the Mission Control dashboard to add the necessary email accounts to your subscription, and to create your email address(es). You can:
    • Use your own domain name.
    • Or use one of our free domains upon request.

Step-by-Step Setup Guide

Step 1: Open Your Email Client

  1. Open your preferred email app (e.g., Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, Android Mail, etc.).
  2. Choose to add a new email account.

Step 2: Configure as IMAP

  1. Select IMAP as the account type. IMAP keeps your folders and emails synced across all devices.
  2. Add account. Use Other for IMAP
  3. Fill in your email address, password and the desired display name
  4. Fill in the advanced setup details (incoming and outgoing mail server and your email password)
  5. Choose to sync your mail
  6. Verify the Account settings – IMAP settings – use SSL, authenticate with password and set IMAP server port to 993
  7. SMTP settings – use SSL, authenticate with password and set SMTP server port to 465

Additional Notes

  • Rocket Workspace: If you have a Rocket Workspace account, you can also set up ActiveSync to sync emails, contacts, and calendar items across devices.
  • Device Compatibility: You can set up your email on devices such as printers, generators, and surveillance cameras using IMAP.
